Alvan Clark, Anna Henshaw, oil on canvas, portrait of seated lady with a lace veil against a somber background, in gesso frame with gilt plaque engraved "Anna Henshaw" by Alvan Clark, December 1841, sight 24 x 30 in.
Note: An early paper label on the verso reads "This portrait of Anna Henshaw, of Henshaw Place, Leicester, Mass., daughter of the late David Henshaw and Mrs. Mary Sargent Henshaw - and sister to the Hon. David Henshaw - was born in Leicester 24th Feb. 1770 - was painted by Alvan Clark, Artist in Boston, Dec. 1841. Expenses for painting - frame, etc. were defrayed by the Hon. David Henshaw of Henshaw Place".There follows an unclear pencil inscription: "This Portrait was bequeathed to Anne B. Eleredge (?), wife of James H. Eleredge M.D., by her father Charles Henshaw of Boston - and received and hung in this house on the 18th June A.D. 1866."
