Signed "Pauline Palmer" l.r., artist and title inscribed on the reverse, identified
on a label from Campanile Galleries, Inc., Chicago, affixed to the reverse.
Oil on Masonite, 32 x 28 in. (81.3 x 71.1 cm),framed.
Condition: Good.

N.B. Born in McHenry, Illinois, Palmer trained in a convent in Milwaukee before attending the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied with William Merritt Chase. She married Dr. Albert Palmer and the couple left their Chicago home to summer in Provincetown. Palmer became the first female president of the Chicago Society of Artists in 1919 and also served as president of the Art Institute Alumni Association Chicago and the Chicago Association of Painters and Sculptors. Following her husband's death in 1921, Palmer spent a great deal of time in Provincetown. There, she often painted portraits of the children of Portuguese fisherman that lived nearby.
