Description:

Needlework Sampler, "Sarah Jewett Aged 12 Years Holles June th 17th 1809," Hollis, New Hampshire, the sampler worked in silk threads on a linen ground centered with rows of alphabets above the verse "Listen youth tis Pleasures Voice/Bids thy Generous Heart Rejoice," with in a meandering vine and sawtooth borders, (unfinished, small losses to backing fabric), 15 3/4 x 16 3/4 in.

Note: According to family history indicated in inscriptions on the reverse of the frame, Sarah Jewett was born December 7, 1776 to Nathaniel Jewett and his first wife Sarah Blood of Hollis, New Hampshire. She never married and died January 29, 1843 at the age of 67.
