Condition: Lined, losses, retouch, varnish inconsistencies, craquelure with alligatoring and lifting.
N.B. Marcius-Simons was a largely self-taught artist who began painting at the age of twelve. He moved to Paris with his family, where he studied at the Vaugirard College with J. G. Vilbert. He is best known for his ability to create elaborate, poetic images by use of symbolism and heightened color. At the end of his career, he worked as a set designer at the Wagner Theater in Bayreuth, Germany.
