Bisque Head Uncle Sam Character Doll, Germany, late 19th/early 20th century, possibly by Cuno & Otto Dressel for their portrait series, sleeping brown glass eyes (some wax loss on lids), well-defined rope-like gray painted eyebrows, strong character modeling, closed smiling mouth with protruding lower jaw, deep furrows around mouth and eyes, impressed Made in Germany S8 mark, blonde mohair wig, fully jointed composition body (slight paint wear, little finger damage on right hand), blue felt cut-away coat, white stars on a blue background cotton vest, red and white striped cotton trousers, black stockings, and black leatherette shoes, (clothes have fading and fiber loss), gray cardboard top hat with blue and white hat band, (some staining and tape on hat), ht. 17 in.
