Description:

Early Musical Silver Basket, with Continental hallmarks, two-air cylinder movement with chevron-shaped sectional comb, and teeth in groups of three, in openwork silver basket with repoussé designs of putti musicians alternating with vineleaf swags and wirework borders enclosing pressed-glass liner, the curved handles with star-and-lyre motifs flanked by sphinxes, on serpentine dolphin feet to rectangular base with pierced sides, ht. 6 in., cylinder 3 1/8 in.

Note: The design of the basket with its repeated musical motifs suggest that both case and movement were made on commission.
