Black Cloth Martha Chase Mammy Doll, Rhode Island, early 20th century, very dark brown painted eyes, soft brick-red painted mouth and nostrils, slightly protruding lower lip, rosy cheek coloring, matte finish to brown paint (light crazing on neck and face with a few very fine white lines showing on face, small nose rub may have paint touch-in), black astrakhan wig, brown cotton sateen-covered body with stitched and padded bosom delineation, painted limbs from above elbows and knees (some light soil marks may be paint from the factory), unclothed, ht. 17 in.
