Pair of French Hansi Character Dolls, c. 1917, "Yerri" and "Gretel," designed by the French artist, Hansi, to commemorate the recapture of Alsace at the end of WWI, the dolls with molded and painted socket heads of Prialytine, a heavy celluloid composition, painted features, angled brows, smiling mouths, five piece jointed composition bodies, molded socks and shoes (some cracking to legs), dressed in velvet and silk Alsatian costumes, she carries an umbrella, he the French flag, both have school slates, ht. 7 3/4 in.
