18kt Gold, Precious Fire Opal, and Gem-set Ring, Paul Flato, set with a cabochon opal weighing approx. 50.00 cts., framed by leaf motifs set with marquise-cut sapphire and diamond melee, engraved verso, size 7 1/2.

Note: Beginning in the 1920s, Paul Flato created jewelry for wealthy New York and Beverly Hills clients. Among the designers who worked for him was Fulco di Verdura. His clients included Cole Porter, Katharine Hepburn, and Marlene Dietrich. A colorful and charming person, Flato re-established himself as a jeweler in Mexico City in the 1940s after leaving the United States due to tax complications. This ring most likely dates from the Mexican period.
