Henry Schreiner Stellwagen (American, d. 1866)

Four Pencil Sketches. Pencil on paper; the first unsigned showing a beach with a resting mule, a rowboat and small buildings, with a group of larger buildings and anchored ships beyond, indistinctly inscribed on the reverse "St. Anne de Chaves, St. Thomas Coast of Africa/Macedonia, Aug 16th 1844," 7 x 10 in., unframed; the second unsigned, showing a scene of water with hill beyond, inscribed "Munrovia" l.c., 3 x 5 1/2 in., unframed; the last two on one sheet, both signed l.r. with initials "HSS," showing ships off the coast of Africa, inscribed "Id. of St. Thomas Africa S? & E?" and "River Gaboon Africa. Am. Mission" respectively, sheet size 7 x 10 1/4 in., unframed. Condition: All with toning, glue residue and brown paper on the reverse.
