Description:

Queen Anne Carved Cherry High Chest, probably Dover, New Hampshire, 18th century, the flaring cornice molding above five graduated thumbmolded drawers joined by a mid-molding to the lower case of one long and three short drawers, the central one of which is fan-carved, above a blocked area and three flat-headed arches flanked by cabriole legs with spurs and ending in pad feet, original brass, early surface, (minor restoration),ht. 75 1/4, wd. (case) 36, dp. 18 1/2 in.

Provenance: Family descent to the consignor from Capt. Peter Coffin (b. 1722) of Newburg, Mass. He married Rebecca Haseltine and moved to Concord, New Hampshire. An ardent patriot, he was a member of the Provincial Congress, held in Exeter, New Hampshire, April 21, 1775. He also served in the campaign of 1777 when General Burgoyne headed the troops.
