Description:

Needlework Sampler, "Lucinda Spaulding aged 11 Years Wilton (New Hampshire) July 13, 1806," silk threads on a linen ground with alphabet panels over a tree flanked by flowering bushes and baskets of flowers surrounded on three sides by a flowering vine (fading),17 1/2 x 12 1/4 in.

Note: A genealogy record taken from the History of Wilton, New Hampshire 1762-1888, by Abiel Abbot Livermore and Sewell Putnam, lists Lucinda Spaulding as the fourteenth child of Jonathan and Mary (Marshall) Spaulding. She was born March 11, 1794, married Oliver Shattuck of Bakersfield, Vermont in 1842. She was his second wife and died at Greenville. She was more than 90 years of age at the time of her death. This record is included in the lot with the sampler.
