Group of Albumen Prints by Friese Greene, approx. twenty-two carte de visites and cabinet portraits, the majority from his studio 7 Corridor, Bath; and a pre-1874 carte de visite by Greene.
Note: William Friese-Greene, a pioneer of early British cinema and the disputed inventor of color kinematography, was born William Greene in 1855, assuming the double-barreled surname when he married Helena Friese in 1874. He owned and operated his own photographic studio in Bath, experimented with magic lanterns to create an illusion of movement, and took out a number of patents for stereo motion picture cameras which were never completed.
