Copley / Joslin Improved 16-inch Terrestrial Globe, made up of two sets of twelve hand-colored gores with brass hour ring, the countries extensively labeled with towns, cities, rivers and mountains, the equatorial divided by minutes, hours and degrees, the ecliptic by calender months and Zodiacal houses in sigils, in engraved lacquered-brass meridian circle and horizon ring marked with the calendar months, Zodiacal calendar, and explanations of the Equation of Time, abbreviations of ancient and modern constellations, boundaries of the constellations and magnitudes of the stars to the ninth and nebulae, with credit Improved Globe, Boston, Manufactured by Gilman Joslin, Corrected to 1870 and Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1852 by Charles Copley in the Clerks office of the District Court of the Southern District of New York, on cast-iron stand with three scrolling legs, ht. 23 in.

Note: First published by Brooklyn cartographer Charles Copley in 1852, his extremely detailed pair of 16-inch terrestrial and celestial globes were not an immediate commercial success. The Copley globes were subsequently re-published by Gilman Joslin of Boston from 1870 until the 1890s.
