Silk and Linen Pictorial Adam and Eve Needlework Sampler, "Elizabeth Godwin.s Sampler. Dec.1.1828," silk threads on a linen ground, depicting Adam and Eve and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil with the serpent encircling it flanked by a willow tree and a stylized basket of fruit, above a panel with a house, trees, figures, stars, and flowers, enclosed in a geometric flowering vine, unfinished stitched lettering reading "Adam and Eve in ParadiSe were Placed, But Soon the," (toning, loss l.r., minor stains), 16 3/4 x 17 in., in a period molded giltwood frame.
