(Civil War, Confederate), Manuscript document, December 1863, nine pages, docketed "Report on Subsistence," by Lucius Bellinger Northrop as Confederate Commissary General of Subsistence to the Secretary of War, mostly in pencil and with some patchwork pages, a long and rambling report with many anxious comments about lost supplies, needed supplies, possible purchases from abroad and inability to meet rising prices for purchasing, (soiling). Note: Northrop was not popular amongst his colleagues in the Confederate Cabinet. Though acquitted of the charge of inadequately feeding Union prisoners in 1865, he was removed a month later.
