Howard in Omaha, Nebraska, a letter between old friends exchanging pleasantries, discussing religion and the willingness to accept all types, the impending retirement of General Ross and his possible replacement, Howard's career, "I remembered well Mr. Stanton's promise to you at Savannah that your commission should date with the Capture of Savannah" and explaining his reasons for his inability to support him, but would try to endorse him in other ventures, mentioning President Cleveland, (soiled, fold separation, two old paper tape repairs).
