American School, Early 19th Century

Portrait of a Young Boy, 1820-1830, Massachusetts. Unsigned. Oil on panel, depicts a brown haired child with mischievous expression seated in a yellow painted and green stencil-decorated Windsor armchair in front of a classical column with green drapery, wearing a semi-transparent striped gray dress with touches of red and ruffles, a red coral necklace and bright red shoes with green laces while holding a rattle in one hand and a George Washington Peace Medallion in the other; the chair rests on a red and green stenciled floor, 30 1/2 x 25 1/2 in., in a replacement molded gilt frame. Condition: Very good, cleaned.
