Needlework Sampler, "Eliza Godly her Work aged 9 years in the year of our Lord 1827 Sheffield General Infirmary," silk and wool threads on a linen ground, depicting the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil with the serpent encircling the tree, flanked by figures of Adam and Eve, pious verses and birds and flower motifs, over a large building with sheep and shepherds in the foreground, flanked by birds perched atop baskets of flowers and pine trees, geometric floral border, (losses, fading, toning), sight size 19 1/4 x 15 1/4 in., in a molded giltwood frame.
