Condition: Minor scattered paint loss.
Note: Samuel P. Howes lived and worked in Lowell, Massachusetts, most of his life. He came to be recognized as a talented folk painter. By 1830's when Howes was in Lowell it was a booming textile city making it a good climate for selling his likenesses which he did there for the next ten years. From 1845-1865 he advertised his daguerreotype business from there. Aurora Shedd likely lived in Lowell where the Shedds were a prominent family in the 19th century.
