Sailor-made Ivory and Bone Yarn Swift with Wood Case, America, 19th century, ring-turned ivory axis spoke inlaid with baleen bands, topped with a yarn cup, the lower shaft with engraved eagle and turned thumb screw, highlighted with red and black wax, carved whale bone slats forming the expanding cage joined by metal rivets and red and blue silk ribbons; dovetail constructed mahogany case with hinged lid, (minor imperfections), ht. 25 3/8, box 3 1/4 x 26 in.
