Description:

Watercolor Memorial Picture on Velvet, probably Connecticut or Rhode Island, c. 1835, the memorial depicting a man, woman and child grieving beside three monuments with inscriptions recording the deaths of six people: Caleb Sherman who died December 28th 1823, his wife Sarah who died June 27 1789, and four others, in the background are weeping willow trees, a church, houses, flowers and foliage, (toning), 22 1/4 x 27 1/2 in., in a molded wood frame with gilt liner.

Exhibited: According to a note affixed to the reverse the mourning picture was exhibited at the Albany Bicentennial Show.
