Chinese School, 19th Century

View of the Praya Grande from the North, Macao. c.1850. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, showing a row of western style buildings with an American flag flying above one, the sweeping curve of the Praya Grande to the right, the hill Penha to the left with a church, several Chinese junks and a sidewheeler flying an American flag in the foreground, 17 1/2 x 30 in., in a molded giltwood frame. Condition: Relined, craquelure, minor pitting.
