Federal Mahogany Veneer Basin Stand, New England, early 19th century, the scalloped backsplash above the basin cut outs with its shaped skirt over a medial shelf with one working and one faux cockbeaded drawer outlined in cross banded veneer on four reeded legs ending in turned feet, old surface, replaced brass, (minor imperfections),ht. 43 1/2, wd. 24, dp. 16 1/4 in.
Provenance: this stand furnished Mowbra Hall, Westchester County, New York... a house whose furnishings "were assembled by two dedicated collectors, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Carpenter jr. as a result of their deep appreciation for the decorative arts of New England" according to The Connoisseur, June and August 1972,"Mowbra Hall and a Collection of Period Rooms" p. 3.
