N.B. In a letter discussing the work, Dr. E. Adina Gordon notes that "circumstances and information support the possibility that MacMonnies made the maquette entitled Lovers Embracing, and that he gave it out to be cast in France. Although the dating is not certain, I believe it was made in the last decade of the artist's sojourn in France, between 1905-1915, when it is known that he made many small sketches." We are grateful to Dr. Gordon for her assistance in cataloging this piece.
