Attributed to Joseph H. Davis (American, active 1832-1837)

Portrait of Cyrus Jerome Tirell. Unsigned, subject identified in inscription below. Watercolor on paper, depicting a profile portrait of the young man wearing a blue suit, standing with hat in hand in a landscape with foliage, 6 7/8 x 5 1/4 in., in a molded giltwood frame. Condition: Toning, crease.

Note: A genealogical search records that Cyrus Jerome Tirell was born about 1815 in Massachusetts, the son of Gideon and Christina (Woodbury) Tirell. He married Alicia Taft on November 26, 1840. It is not known if they had any children. Joseph Davis was an itinerant portrait artist that worked primarily in New Hampshire and Maine. His works span between the years 1832 to 1837.
