William Matthew Prior (Maine, Maryland, and Massachusetts, 1806-1873)

Portrait of a Girl. 1840s. Signed on reverse in pencil "By Wm M. Prior Boston" A portrait of a girl in pink, Boston area. Oil on academy board, the young girl pictured in a half-length view wearing a soft pink dress trimmed by a ruffled white collar with her arms crossed, one accented by a coral bracelet, the other holds a flower, 13 3/4 x 10 in., in a period frame which appears original. Condition: Very minor abrasions and paint loss.

Provenance: Family descent in the same family as lot 74. Both portraits are framed identically.
