George Bacon Wood Jr. (American, 1832-1910)
Horse and Carriage Scene. Signed and dated "Geo. B. Wood jr. 1872" l.r., the reverse of stretcher with pyrographic impression "G.B. WOOD." Oil on canvas depicting a scene with the driver of a horse and carriage stopping to converse with a man strolling down a country road, 12 x 24 in., in original molded giltwood frame. Condition: Good, varnished.
Note: George Wood lived and worked primarily in Germantown, Pennsylvania, and was known for his landscapes, genre paintings, and silhouettes. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club.
