THE WHALE FISHERY. THE SPERM WHALE "IN A FLURRY". (Conningham, 6627). Identified by inscriptions in the matrix. Lithograph with hand-coloring on paper, sheet size 20 1/4 x 27 1/4 in., in a molded bird's-eye maple frame. Condition: Margins of 1 3/4 in. or more, repaired tear in the margin, light staining most prevalent in the margins.

Note: This lithograph ranked no. 11 in the original "Best 50," and no. 50 in the "New Best 50" large folio.

Exhibitions: Milwaukee Art Museum, "Currier & Ives: Best Fifty Revisited," June 8th to September 16th, 1990. The exhibition label retained on the reverse of the frame.
