Slip Decorated Spirit Jug, Bristol County, Massachusetts, 1800-1830, bulbous vessel tapering to base having two spouts with narrow and wide openings, applied reeded ring handle on top, orange-brown glaze with dark brown splotches and streaks, hand-carved wooden stopper, (minor chips, glaze wear),ht. 8 3/4 in.

Provenance: By family decent of Charles D. Cook.

Literature: A similar example of this form is illustrated in the exhibition catalog Slipped & Glazed: Regional American Redware, Heritage Plantation of Sandwich, Sandwich, Massachusetts, 1991, p.26. The description states "This form, with double spouts is generally called a harvest jug. The extra spout allowed liquids to be poured with greater ease than a single spout."
