Attributed to Charles Delin (Maastricht and Amsterdam 1756-1829, active 1785-1825)

Portrait of a Gentleman. 1790-1820, with cherubic appearance, wispy hair and a robust highlighting of the facial features in this bust portrait. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, sight 20 1/2 x 16 1/4 in., in a gilt and wood frame. Condition: minor craquelure, re-varnish, unlined.

Note: C. Delin is believed to be Carolus Delin a Flemish port painter who painted a number of American sea captains and their families in Salem, Nantucket, Newburyport, Plymouth, Philadelphia, etc.
