N.B. Born in London, England, Dawson-Watson's artistic talents were developed at an early age. As a young man, he moved to Paris where he befriended many French artists of the day and met his future wife, an American woman traveling with artist Emma Richardson Cherry. Together they moved to Giverny, where Dawson-Watson studied and painted the local landscape and scenery, producing work such as the piece presented here. After meeting American artist Carl Beckwith, Dawson-Watson was persuaded to move to the United States, where he lived and worked until his death in 1939.
