Alonso, (American, 20th century) Portrait of a Wimpfheimer Racehorse "Bounding Basque," oil on canvas, the chestnut horse with white stockings and blaze, standing near a folded blanket with initials JDW for Jacques D. Wimpfheimer, signed and dated 1986 l.r., subject identified l.l., framed, sight 19 1/2 x 15 1/2 in. Condition: Good.

Note: Bounding Basque's career included wins New York Racing Association's The Wood Memorial (1st Division),Acqueduct, 1983, and The Brooklyn, Belmont, 1985; Meadlowlands, 1985; and Suffolk Downs Massachusetts Handicap, June 22, 1985, setting a track record. Trophies of these races are included as subsequent lots herewith.
