Sunlight Study/A California Scene
Signed and dated "JOHN FROST. '23." l.r., titled in inscription on stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 24 x 28 in. (60.9 x 71.1 cm), in a period frame (repainted).
Condition: Scattered losses and retouch, minor canvas deformation c.l., scattered craquelure.

N.B. John Frost was the son of illustrator A.B. Frost, with whom he studied. He trained formally at the Academie Julian, and spent much of the early 1910's in France and Switzerland. He moved to southern California in 1918, and remained there until his death.
