Peter Newell (American, 1862-1924)

Lot of Four Illustrations for The Parson's Devil
Each signed "P. Newell", and annotated (in pencil) in the margins.
Pen and ink on paper, 11 3/4 x 8 3/4 in. (30 x 22 cm), unframed.
Condition: Subtle toning, minor soiling, tack holes to corners.

Provenance: Descended through the family of Clifton Johnson.

N.B. The lot is accompanied by a copy of the Johnson's Bookstore, Springfield, Massachusetts, 1927 edition of The Parson's Devil, by Clifton Johnson. The book is inscribed and dated "Yours very truly Clifton Johnson, April 20, 1933".
