Description:

Wilson, Woodrow (1856-1924) & Wilson, Edith Bolling (1872-1961) Autograph letter signed, December 19, 1915, three pages, to his daugher Eleanor Wilson McAdoo, the day after Wilson's wedding to Edith Bolling, concering their itinerary after the ceremony, the secret service contingent and the journey back to Washington, with holograph postscript by Edith, (very good). Text in full: My darling little daughter, Here we are, all safe and sound-and happy, deeply happy. We were too early for out train when we left the house, so we went for a ride and then round about to the long bridge and over the river to Alexandria, where we had all along planned to meet the train. We were just about on time there but the train was a few minutes late- so we had to sit in the auto about twenty minuted, guarded by a big squad of secret service men. We had done the unexpected: there was no crowd at the station. When out car came along, attached to the second section of the train, we got quietly off, chaperoned by the faithful Hoover, and the journey was begun without incident. The ride was an easy one; we took breakfast on the car just befor arriving, and we are now (11 A.M.) confortably settled in delightful quiet rooms in which we can have all the privacy and comfort we desire. We are both perfectly well, though very tired and delighted to have a chance to loaf and rest. I need not tell you how happy we are. You know Edith and can imagine my delight in her, and she, dear, splendid lady, seems as happy as I am, bless her heart. She unites with me in dear love to all. Your devoted Father The weather is cold here but clear and fine. (Edith writes): May I hold this little word dear little "Daughter" to send you each one my love and thank you for your unchangind sweetness to me- we miss you dear ones but are so happy we can't express it always. Edith.
