Pair of Portraits of a Gentleman and His Wife. Unsigned. Pastel on paper, depicting a blue-eyed man wearing a double-breasted navy blue jacket with brass buttons and a gold patterned vest, the woman wears a white Empire-style dress with a salmon-colored shawl draped around her shoulders, a triple-strand necklace, and a gold earring, 12 3/8 x 10 7/8 in. (sight),in gilt gesso frames. Condition: Good, scattered minor pigment losses.

Note: Affixed to the reverse of one is a ten dollar Confederate note dated 1864.
