Description:

Windsor "Fancy" Settee, New York City, c. 1815, the crest rail is divided into four sections over pierced horizontal splats divided by spherules flanked by curving arms above a seat with rounded ends above five turned tapering front legs; original green background paint with original goldleaf fruit and foliate decoration as well as gold striping, old painted rush seat, (very minor paint loss),ht. 33, seat ht. 16 3/4, dp. 20 3/4, lg. 85 in. Provenance: Family descent to the consignor from Mary Frances Pringle, daughter of Mary and William Bull Pringle, born 1831 at the Miles Brewton House, Charleston, South Carolina. She married Donald G. Mitchell, May 31, 1853, and moved to "Edgewood" Westville, Connecticut, in 1855 from Charleston, bringing her furniture from the Brewton House, 27 King Street. (This house still stands). Note: It is well known a great deal of furniture which was made in New York was shipped from there to Charleston to be sold to its residents.
