Watercolor on ivory, depicting a seated child in a white lacework dress wearing a coral bead necklace with pendant, 2 1/4 x 1 3/4 in., in an oval gilt-metal and velvet lined frame, 4 1/2 x 4 in. N.B. Mrs. Moses B. Russell, nee Clarissa Peters, was born in Andover, Massachusetts. She was an active miniature painter in Boston and surrounds between 1836 and 1854. In 1839 she married portraitist Moses B. Russell and lived in Boston, where she exhibited at the Athenaeum and the Art and Mechanics Associations from 1841 to 1850.
