Janus-faced Carved Rootwood Figure, late 19th century, two male faces with bead eyes, on one torso and splayed legs terminating in paw feet, traces of old varnish, ht. 13 1/2, wd. 7 in. N.B. Found in Vermont. Provenance: Raymond Saroff/Howard Rose collection, Aarne Anton/American Primitive Gallery. Literature and Exhibitions: This figure is pictured in Roger Ricco and Frank Maresca's AMERICAN PRIMITIVE: DISCOVERIES IN FOLK SCULPTURE, (New York, 1988),p. 41, fig. 46.
