Fine Books & Manuscripts Director, Marlborough, MA

Description:

Skinner, New England’s leading auction house for antiques & fine art, seeks a Director for our Fine Books and Manuscripts department. We are in need of a Director to provide curatorial, business development, auction, and administrative support for the Department. We are seeking a personable, detail-oriented individual who has the knowledge and skills to further the growth of this important area.

Responsibilities:

  • Directing a team in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
  • Develop and execute a plan for new business
  • Manage departmental marketing communications and public relations; liaise with Skinner corporate marketing
  • Appraise, research and catalog items for auction
  • Oversee inquiries for auction, consignment and appraisals services
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; end-user proficiency with online and social media platforms such as WordPress, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Liaise into the full Skinner auction schedule

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should possess minimum 5 years experience in appraising books and manuscripts in an auction house, gallery, museum or related field. Computer proficiency, attention to detail, aesthetic sense, can-do attitude, ability to juggle multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines, and work collaboratively as a team member a must. Knowledge of auction house software and systems a plus.

Skinner seeks a specialist in oriental rugs and carpets to provide curatorial, business development, auction, and administrative support for the Department. We seek a personable, detail-oriented individual who has the knowledge and skills to further the growth of this important area.

The successful candidate will need to: provide pre-auction support, including inventory, cataloging, and photography assistance as required; coordinate with Skinner inventory and production departments; receive inquiries for auction appraisals and take in consignment material under the supervision of the department head; provide department head with administrative and logistical support as needed; perform auction duties as assigned and liaise into the Skinner auction schedule to assist with sale registration, internet bidding and phone bidding.

20th Century Design, Department Director, Marlborough, MA

Skinner, New England’s leading auction house for antiques & fine art, seeks a Director for our 20th Century Design Department to provide curatorial, business development, auction, and administrative support for the Department. We seek a personable, detail-oriented individual who has the knowledge and skills in 20th Century furniture and decorative arts to further this area’s growth.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and execute a plan for sustaining existing and creating new business
  • Manage departmental marketing communications and public relations; liaise with Skinner corporate Marketing Department
  • Manage departmental budget, expenses, revenue, and profit; liaise with Skinner corporate Finance Department
  • Provide appraisal services including object identification and valuation; liaise with Skinner corporate Appraisal Services Department
  • Oversee inquiries for auction, consignment, and appraisals services
  • Provide auction support, including research, estimating auction value, cataloging, supporting photography of items for auction, and providing detailed condition reports for prospective bidders
  • Liaise into the full Skinner auction schedule

Qualifications: 

  • The ideal candidate possesses a minimum of 5 years of experience identifying, appraising, and cataloging decorative arts and furniture in an auction house, gallery, museum, or related field

Duties include implementing digital and print marketing programs, website content, digital image processing, email, and social media to produce and maintain a high-quality user experience across digital platforms. This position requires a creative thinker who embraces new technologies and can collaborate effectively across the organization, implement content strategies, generate support, and share outcomes while adhering to a marketing content calendar. Work collaboratively on internal, external, and virtual events, and perform any other ad-hoc duties as requested.

  • Bachelors Degree in Marketing or Communications, or related field
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in digital marketing
  • Experience using Adobe Suite, Mailchimp, WordPress, and Google Analytics
  • Experience managing business accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Strong understanding of SEO and the social media landscape

Gallery Director, Boston, MA

Skinner, New England’s leading auction house for antiques & fine art, seeks a Director for our Boston Gallery. This individual will have their home base as Boston but will split their time between our Boston and Marlborough locations.

General Duties

  • Managing the daily operation and maintenance of the Boston Gallery.
  • Hiring, training, and managing all full-time and part-time Boston staff as needed.
  • Assisting with HR duties companywide.
  • Building and maintaining customer rapport. Fielding and resolving escalated issues.
  • Executing the proper transfer, packing/unpacking, and storage of inventory.
  • Handling all pickups, drop-offs of sold/unsold property, consignments, and walk-ins in the Boston Gallery.
  • Function as the IT point person for all Boston Gallery systems.
  • Field customer service calls/emails companywide.
  • Manage & assist with in-house, virtual, and external events.
  • Responsible for organizing and executing all live auctions.

Accomplish the following:

  • Telephone bid entering, coordination, and supervision along with assisting with absentee bid support.
  • Working with department heads regarding specific auction requirements on setup and additional support.
  • Hands-on work offloading and loading property from our trucks to curate and install all public previews. 
  • Assisting clients via phone, email, and in person.

Weeknight and weekend hours required where necessary.

Accounts Receivable Clerk, Marlborough, MA

Job Posting: Accounts Receivable Clerk
Skinner is seeking a motivated and talented individual to join our Accounting team. A competitive applicant should have experience in the field, enjoy a dynamic workplace, and have excellent communication skills.

The Accounts Receivable Clerk’s responsibilities include generating invoices and ensuring their accuracy, distributing invoices to customers, posting customers’ payments, and communicating non-payment information to Accounts Payable and Collections. Like all employees at Skinner the Accounts Receivable Clerk is expected to take responsibility for their own workstream as well as communicate effectively with the larger team.

Primary Duties
• Communicate with clients regarding payments due
• Post payments and maintain accounts receivable ledger
• Work across departments to troubleshoot and resolve customer issues
• Maintain strict confidentiality of financial information and customer records
• Contribute to continuous improvement within department by identifying inefficiencies and recommending improvements to CFO
• Fulfill Accounting duties at live auction events

Skills and Qualifications
• 3+ years in Accounts Receivable or similar role
• Familiar with AR systems and best practices
• Proficient user of MS Office, particularly Excel
• Effective communicator (written and verbal)
• Ability to work independently as well as with a team
• Attention to detail

The successful candidate should have 1-2 years of related experience but will train the right person; physical strength and stamina required as there is very heavy lifting involved; willingness to endure long days when necessary in order to get the job at hand finished; some night and weekend work, and ability to travel overnight as necessary; must be available to work auctions as requested.
