Description:

Skinner, New England’s leading auction house for antiques & fine art, seeks a Director for our Fine Books and Manuscripts department. We are in need of a Director to provide curatorial, business development, auction, and administrative support for the Department. We are seeking a personable, detail-oriented individual who has the knowledge and skills to further the growth of this important area.

Responsibilities:

  • Directing a team in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
  • Develop and execute a plan for new business
  • Manage departmental marketing communications and public relations; liaise with Skinner corporate marketing
  • Appraise, research and catalog items for auction
  • Oversee inquiries for auction, consignment and appraisals services
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; end-user proficiency with online and social media platforms such as WordPress, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Liaise into the full Skinner auction schedule

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should possess minimum 5 years experience in appraising books and manuscripts in an auction house, gallery, museum or related field. Computer proficiency, attention to detail, aesthetic sense, can-do attitude, ability to juggle multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines, and work collaboratively as a team member a must. Knowledge of auction house software and systems a plus.

Jewelry Department Administrator, Boston, MA

New England’s largest auction house is hiring a full-time administrator for the Jewelry department. Jewelry is a flagship department at Skinner and one of the top auction house jewelry departments in the country. We are seeking a personable, responsible, and highly motivated person to assume administrative duties that include:

  • Client correspondence related to consignment and purchase;
  • Consignment contract coordination and data entry;
  • Auction clerking and general assistance;
  • Post-auction coordination of client purchase pick-up, packing, and shipping;
  • Inventory control and organization;
  • Assistance with client appointments and special events.

Qualifications:

  • 1 – 2 years office and administrative experience;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Highly customer-focused;
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, and knowledge of auction software, or the ability to learn new software programs quickly and accurately;
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Marketing Manager, Marlborough, MA

Skinner is searching for an experienced full-time Marketing Manager. The Marketing Manager is a highly interactive and personable marketing professional, responsible for managing all facets of the company’s digital and print marketing efforts to grow the company’s base of consignors and buyers.  S/he will work within a team setting and must display a positive attitude and seek to provide or identify solutions to help create and preserve a cooperative and energized team.

Responsibilities Include:

Work with stakeholders to develop marketing plans, strategies, and budgets with specialty departments. Coordinate highlights, track placements and manage media and PR inquiries with a PR team for digital and print. Implement and maintain a schedule of organic and paid web promotions for auctions and events, incorporating strong SEO strategies.

  • Gather images and copy; design and build marketing materials including print ads, digital content, and other projects while adhering to company branding guidelines.
  • Develop and manage email programs to increase the subscriber base and improve conversion rates.
  • Work with IT team to increase website visits and conversion rates, manage and maintain website content, improve usability, design, and content. Continually review and improve SEO to drive organic traffic and monitor success.
  • Develop, oversee and contribute to the company’s social media platforms to improve online presence and engagement
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support the business

Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree in a marketing-related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in marketing, preferably within the antiques, arts, or luxury goods field.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to write clear, eye-catching, and creative copy
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of web and print materials and content
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in the use of social media
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and deadlines and juggle multiple priorities and deadlines without sacrificing quality
  • Ability to work independently and to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • An eye for detail/proofing, copyediting, design, and an understanding of branding
  • Customer service orientation – strong training and support skills
