Twin Stone Diamond Ring Sells for $457,000

The recent stock market woes did little to dampen the determination of the biggest bidders at Skinner's Fine Jewelry auction on September 16th. In fact, prices for the best and brightest material were surprisingly high given the gloomy economic forecast. Evidence of this was the cover lot, a spectacular Twin-Stone Pink and Blue Diamond Ring, prong-set with a gray-blue marquise-cut diamond weighing 2.87 cts. and a light pink marquise-cut diamond weighing 2.60 cts., which sold for $457,000. Reaction from the crowd on the auction floor amounted to a collective "WOW", as the ring sold for nearly two times its estimate.
"The finest and rarest pieces still fetch top dollar, even record prices," notes Gloria Lieberman, director of Skinner's Fine Jewelry department. "In some cases, the market for fine jewelry is as strong as it has ever been. We continually attract major buyers who will pay whatever it takes to own the most exquisite works of fine jewelry, and we have just what they are looking for - truly one-of-a-kind works of art." Skinner looks forward to its next auction of Fine Jewelry, slated for December 9th 2008. To consign fine jewelry for this upcoming auction, contact Skinner's Fine Jewelry department at 617-350-5400.
