Southwest Polychrome Pottery Plate Sells for $99,500 In Skinner's Auction of American Indian Arts

A Southwest Polychrome pottery plate by Marie and Julian sold for $99,500 in Skinner’s September 20th auction of American Indian & Ethnographic Arts. The sale was the highest grossing American Indian Auction ever held at Skinner, realizing a total $1,060,839 – over $400,000 over the high estimate. The buy-in rate was a mere 5%.
“This plate was a very early and beautifully rare example of Marie and Julian’s work, decorated with Koshare clowns,” notes Douglas Deihl, director of Skinner’s American Indian department. “Furthermore, the auction overall was a tremendous success, with strong prices in nearly every category. We’re seeing continued growth and new customers in this area of collecting.”
