Cartier Emerald And Sapphire Brooch Sells For An Astounding $270,000

Skinner's September 20th auction of Fine Jewelry was a tremendous success, grossing over $2.2 million -- a figure which exceeded the high estimate for the sale by over $500,000. One lot of particular note was lot 563, a striking Mughal-style platinum, emerald, and sapphire Cartier brooch designed as a floral-carved emerald tablet measuring approximately 49 x 45 x 5 mm, within a scrolling frame channel-set with calibre-set emeralds and sapphires, and cabochon sapphire highlights. Truly a one-of-a-kind piece, the brooch witnessed a flurry of activity from bidders in the room, and on the phones and internet, and finally sold to a bidder on the floor for an astounding $270,000. Skinner's next auction of Fine Jewelry will be held on Tuesday December 13th at noon in our Boston gallery. To consign your one-of-a-kind piece, contact Skinner's Fine Jewelry department at 617.350.5400 or via email at jewelry@skinnerinc.com.
