Art glass, Arts and Crafts, and Contemporary Offerings

BOSTON, Mass. - July 18, 2001 – Skinner, Inc., a leading full-service auctioneer and appraiser of antiques and fine art, held an auction of 20th Century Furniture and Decorative Arts on June 2, 2001 at its Boston gallery. Art glass, Arts and Crafts, and contemporary offerings led the selections, which included a Tiffany Studios Bronze and Leaded Glass Daffodil Table Lamp that sold for $27,600, a Tiffany Studios Bronze and Leaded Glass Tulip Table Lamp that went for $21,850, and a Tiffany Studios Scenic Leaded Glass Window that fetched $20,700.

Art glass also included a Tiffany Floriform Glass Vase with Pulled Feather Decoration that garnered $16,675, a Geometric Acorn Glass and Bronze Hanging Shade attributed to Tiffany Studios, $10,350, two Tiffany Floriform Vases that sold for $8,050 each, and a Tiffany Blue Damascene and Bronze Desk Lamp that also reached $8,050. A LaFarge Jeweled Leaded Glass Window sold for $9,200. The auction offered a varied selection European art glass as well, highlighted by a Stevens and Williams Cameo Glass Vase that sold for $10,350, an Oriente Glass Vase design attributed to Dino Martins for Aureliano Toso, Murano, c. 1950, that realized $8,050, and a René Lalique Molded Glass Grasshopper "Sauterelles" Vase that reached $7,475. Gallé Cameo Glass included an Orchid Vase that fetched $8,625, and a Phlox Vase and a Hibiscus Vase that sold for $8,050 each.

Additional auction highlights included selected art pottery, notably a Marblehead Pottery Two-Color Vase that garnered $17,250, and a Rookwood Vellum Scenic Plaque, "Reflections," decorated by Edward Drers that sold for $6,612.50. Furniture featured a Gustav Stickley Even-Arm Spindle Settle, no. 290, that reached $14,950, a Gustav Stickley Oak Fall-front Writing Desk, model no. 705, that garnered $6,037.50, and a set of Eight Brno Chromed Steel and Leather Armchairs, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, 1929, that sold for $6,900.
