BOSTON, Mass. - November 27, 2007

- www.skinnerinc.com - Skinner, one of the nation's leading auction houses, will host an auction of fine jewelry at its Boston gallery on Tuesday, December 11th at 10 a.m.  The sale will feature a varied selection of antique and Art Deco jewelry, along with a nice selection of vintage Rolex watches.  Nearly every style and price range will be represented, making this a sale a must for shoppers looking for that truly unique holiday gift.

One highlight of the sale is a collection of Art Deco boxes including a Cartier banded agate and diamond box (lot 665, est. $3/5,000); an 18kt gold and lacquer burgaut vanity case (lot 644, est. $1/1,500); an Udall & Ballou 14kt bicolor gold and gem-set charm-mounted vanity case (lot 269, est. $3/5,000); and a Cartier 18kt gold, enamel and sapphire case (lot 313, est. $3,5/4,500).

Other offerings perfect for holiday gift giving include an Edwardian sapphire and diamond ring (lot 695, est. $15/20,000) featuring a circular-cut sapphire measuring approximately 8.45 x 8.55 x 4.72 mm, flanked by old European-cut diamonds in a gold mount; an Edwardian demantoid garnet and diamond frog brooch (lot 246, est. $8/12,000); and an 18kt gold Patek Philippe wristwatch (lot 289, est. $2/3,000) with a silvertone dial and abstract numeral indicators on a burgundy leather band. For collectors of Art Nouveau, a Tiffany & Co. enamel and diamond orchid brooch by Paulding Farnham (lot 245, est. $50/75,000) will be of great interest. The brooch, no. 8, is one of twenty-four varieties of orchids designed by Farnham in 1889, which were a triumph of the Paris Exposition of that year.

As in auctions past, a number of extraordinary diamonds will grace this sale. Among the featured items are two exquisite Cartier bracelets an Art Deco in platinum weighing 17.97 cts. (lot 709, est. $80/120,000) and an Edwardian in platinum (lot 708, est. $75/100,000) likely originally a bandeau weighing approximately 39.57 cts, including a central cushion-cut 7.53 cts. diamond. Another shining highlight is a platinum, ruby and diamond collar and set of detachable dress clips (lot 700, est. $40/60,000). The piece, c. 1950, features a central pendant/brooch and is set throughout with cabochon rubies and baguette and circular-cut diamonds, weighing approximately 40.00 cts. Colored diamonds continue to be sought and a Birks' Art Deco yellow diamond, sapphire and diamond ring (lot 645, est. $60/70,000), with the marquise-cut yellow diamond weighing approximately 3.08 cts., is expected to draw significant interest. The sale closes with an impressive emerald-cut diamond (lot 710, est. $225/275,000), weighing 23.17 cts, in a removable pendant/brooch, designed as a double row of marquise cut diamonds.
