www.skinnerinc.com - Skinner, Inc., one of the nation's leading auction houses for antiques and fine art will host a special on-site auction at Kingsland Manor Antiques, 440 Main St. Rt. 6A, Brewster, Mass. on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 10 a.m. The auction marks the end of an era for the long-time Brewster landmark, which will be closing its door after 35 years in business. Up for auction will be the entire contents of the shop including a wide variety of garden statuary, weathervanes, pottery and porcelain, silver, American & European furniture, Victoriana, estate jewelry, antique lighting, decorative metalwares, and a wide selection of artwork including marine paintings and assorted prints. Also offered will be retail fixtures and display units including a selection of Edwardian and later retail display cabinets.
Situated along scenic Route 6A in Brewster's historic district, Kingsland Manor Antiques opened in 1971. Running the business was a labor of love for shop owner Doris Schepps and her late husband Norman Schepps, both one-time residents of Brewster. Over the years, Kingsland Manor became a favorite shopping destination among Cape Cod residents, seasonal vacationers, influential politicians, and even the occasional celebrity - everyone from Henry Fonda to the Kennedys to Rosemary Clooney.
Skinner is hosting the auction on-site in Brewster in hopes of enticing the summer Cape crowd, as well as seasoned Cape Codders to come and enjoy an old fashioned country auction.
Notes Skinner director, Kerry Shrives, "Skinner hosts auctions year-round in both our Boston and Bolton, Mass. galleries, but this a great opportunity for Cape Cod residents to attend a Skinner auction right in their own back yard. There will be offerings for antique dealers, serious collectors, novice auction attendees, and even retail shoppers. Auctions are truly a unique buying experience and if you've never attended one before, I suggest you stop by and see what it's all about."
Auctions are also a great way to learn more about the value of art and antiques. "We really encourage bidders to come to the previews and browse, ask questions of our experts, examine condition of objects, and learn more about buying at auction," continues Shrives. "As with all Skinner auctions and previews, the public is welcome and there is never a charge to attend."
