www.skinnerinc.com - Skinner, Inc., one of the nation's leading auction houses for antiques and fine art will host a special on-site auction at the Kingsland Manor Antique Shop in Brewster, Mass. on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 10 a.m. two-day Discovery auction on Thursday, July 13th and Friday, July 14th in its Bolton, Mass. gallery, conveniently located west of Boston off Route 495 on Route 117. The June Discovery auction features over 1,000 lots and highlights include a wide selection of musical instruments and bows, Wedgwood and British ceramics, Austrian cold-painted bronzes, and a collection of ship models.
Thursday Session
The Thursday evening session starts at 5 p.m. and features nearly 400 lots beginning with over 50 lots of stringed and fretted musical instruments and their bows, including violins, violas, cellos, guitars, and zithers, followed by more than 300 lots of Wedgwood of all varieties and other British ceramics, much of it from the collection of Edwin S. Klein. Other makers include Royal Doulton and Minton, among others.
Friday Session
Friday's session begins at 10 a.m. and features nearly 700 lots of fresh estate goods from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, including American and European furniture and decorative arts, Victoriana, Asian works of art, Arts & Crafts material, ceramics, art glass, lamps and lighting, modern furniture, paintings, prints, and works on paper, plus a wide array of Oriental rugs and carpets. Special highlights include a nice selection of American and European furniture and decorative arts, ship models, art, antiques and cultural reference books, and ephemera all from the estate of Reverend Thomas Phelan. Reverend Phelan was a chaplain at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an ensign in WWII, a scholar, writer, teacher, and friend of studio furniture designer George Nakashima. Rounding out the Friday session will be folk art, fraternal collectibles, and several lots of Austrian cold-painted bronzes.
