www.skinnerinc.com - Skinner, Inc., one of the nation's leading auction houses for antiques and fine art will host a two-day Discovery auction on Thursday, August 24th and Friday, August 25th in its Bolton, Mass. gallery, conveniently located west of Boston off Route 495 on Route 117. The August Discovery auction features over 1,200 lots and highlights include a wide selection of estate jewelry, plus silver, couture and textiles.
Thursday Session
The Thursday session begins early at 2 p.m. and features over 650 lots, beginning with over 150 lots of couture and textiles, followed by 400 lots of jewelry and over 100 lots of silver and silverplate. Couture and textile offerings are highlighted by collections of Victorian and Edwardian clothing, a large assortment of trims, laces, and bed and table linens, and a fine selection of designer couture including Pucci, Hermes, Valenciaga, Yves St. Laurent, Givenchy, Issey Miyake, Schiaparelli, and Judith Leiber, a wide variety of handbags and designer handbags by Chanel, Armani and Christian Dior, and a large offering of vintage hats. Jewelry highlights include several lots of diamonds, many in Art Deco settings, a large assortment of stick pins and Victorian jewelry, signed costume jewelry, plus gold, silver, pearls, gemstones, hardstones, cameos, wristwatches, and men's articles. Silver offerings include American and European silver and silverplate flatware and tablewares by Tiffany, Gorham, Whiting, and other makers.
Friday Session Highlights
Friday's session begins at 10 a.m. and features over 700 lots. For auction will be Discovery's usual fare of fresh estate goods from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, including American and European furniture and decorative arts, Victoriana, Asian works of art, Arts & Crafts material, ceramics, art glass, lamps and lighting, modern furniture, and a wide array of Oriental rugs and carpets. Special highlights include a nice selection of American country furniture, Victorian art glass including Amberina, and several lots of clocks, and a large selection of paintings, prints, and works on paper.
