BOSTON, Mass. - May 11, 2006

- www.skinnerinc.com - Skinner, Inc., one of the nation's leading auction houses for antiques and fine art will host a two-day Discovery auction on Thursday, May 25th and Friday, May 26th in its Bolton, Mass. gallery conveniently located west of Boston off Route 495 on Route 117. The May Discovery auction features over 1200 lots and highlights include Native American and Ethnographic arts, decorative garden accessories, interesting and varied furniture examples, a collection of cast iron doorstops, a large selection of paintings and prints and a wide offering of Hummel figurines.

Thursday Evening Session

The Thursday evening session begins at 5 p.m. and features over 250 lots of Native American & Ethnographic Arts, including several Navajo rugs, southwest pottery, basketry, plateau beaded leather clothing and moccasins, and other decorative accessories. Ethnographic offerings include deaccessioned items from the collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Other offerings on Thursday include a wide assortment pottery, porcelain, and other smalls.

Friday Session Highlights

Friday's session beings at 10 a.m. and features a nice selection of decorative garden items and some interesting furniture examples including a Wallace Nutting maple lowboy, a Wallace Nutting drop leaf butterfly table, two Hunzinger platform rockers, and six lots of stacking barrister bookcases. Clock and timepieces will also be featured, including a Georgian-style carved mahogany chiming tall case clock. Also offered in the Friday session will be more pottery, porcelain, and collection of cast iron doorstops, plus a large selection of paintings, prints, and works on paper. Rounding out the auction will be Discovery's usual fare of fresh estate goods from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, including American and European furniture and decorative arts, Victoriana, Asian works of art, Arts & Crafts material, ceramics, art glass, lamps and lighting, modern furniture, plus a wide array of Oriental rugs and carpets.
